Middlesex CC Offers Intensive English Institute

Enrollment is now open for Middlesex Community College’s Intensive English Institute (IEI) and fall-semester classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 4.

A selective, noncredit program, the IEI provides rigorous English instruction and cultural immersion for non-native speakers who want to improve their English-language skills in order to advance in their studies or on the job.

Located within MCC’s World Language Institute on the Lowell campus, the IEI offers advanced and high-intermediate English courses. Placement is determined by a one-on-one evaluation;

“Our talented and hard-working English-as-a-second-language students deserve to have teaching and learning that prepares them for their dreams and goals,” said Marilyn Glazer-Weisner, World Language Institute Director. “Our IEI curriculum is informed by research and results in the field of language learning. Our students are exposed to material written by native speakers, for native speakers.”

IEI curriculum includes reading, writing and grammar, as well as speaking and listening exercises. The two-semester, noncredit program meets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, on the Lowell campus. Courses are offered fall and spring semesters.
