Middlesex Community College Offers Management and Leadership Courses

Middlesex Community College’s Community Education and Career Training program is offering a series of Management and Leadership Workshops. These noncredit courses can help individuals learn the skills needed to shift from an individual contributor to a well-respected manager in today’s competitive workplace. Each workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evenings, on the Bedford Campus. Topics include:

Leading by Influence (CAR 821 30 14833) – This course focuses on influence as a method for successfully engaging support and assistance from people over whom leaders have no authority. Students will learn what supervisors and managers can do to secure trust and gain support for their cause. Topics include developing competency, learning about key contacts, thinking strategically, acting cooperatively, managing conflict, overcoming negative objections, maintaining a positive atmosphere and providing an operational plan. Workshop will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The Leader as a Team Builder (CAR 822 30 14834) ­ ­– In this workshop, students will learn pragmatic skills to strengthen team performance through the identification of elements of effective and ineffective teams, developing team goals, encouraging member participation, increasing motivation, effective communication, and managing conflict in a team environment. Workshop will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Performance Evaluations (CAR 823 30 14835) – The subject of performance appraisals can be difficult and daunting or dynamic and positive. This one-time workshop will teach important skills managers need to have when reviewing an employee’s performance to maintain a positive supervisor-employee relationship. Workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Critical Thinking (CAR 824 30 14836) – In this course, students will learn the importance of critical thinking skills for an employee in today’s competitive workplace. Students will best practices about both identifying and solving problems. This workshop will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30.
