Minuteman Senior Services & Subaru Share the Love

“I couldn’t wait to start delivering Meals on Wheels after I retired,” says long-time Minuteman Senior Services volunteer Sally Howell of Stow. As an art teacher her days had been constantly busy, but she didn’t get much of a chance to interact with adults, particularly seniors. As soon as Sally had the opportunity, she began volunteering with Minuteman Senior Services’ Meals on Wheels Program and became involved with the Stow Council on Aging’s Pompositticut Community Center.

Sally was fascinated by Meals on Wheels, having originally heard of it through her father-in-law who delivered a few towns over. Now, almost fifteen years since she started, Sally still delivers meals to local homebound seniors a few times each month. “I’m a talker and love chatting with the seniors.” In addition to enjoying the company of meal recipients, Sally also enjoys the camaraderie among the group of volunteers who deliver meals from – and serve hot lunches at – Stow’s Community Center.

Sally depends on her Subaru Outback to get her to all the consumers’ homes. Minuteman Senior Services is proud to be partnering with Subaru in the 2019 Share the Love Event. From now through January 2, 2020, for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased, Subaru will donate $250 to one of four national charities of the customer’s choice, one being Meals on Wheels America. Minuteman Senior Services will receive a share of the revenue raised in Massachusetts.

Sally added, “This is my second Subaru. When I was teaching, I had to leave before the plows so I needed a good car. My Subaru is so reliable, it’s a nice heavy car that handles the road. Also, my husband played hockey so we needed a car with a hatchback. Each time we bought a Subaru we of course chose Meals on Wheels to receive the donation.”
