Outside Fire Damages Bedford Duplex

Three residents were asleep inside the duplex at the time of the fire.

Bedford, MA—Bedford and Hanscom Air Force Base firefighters battled a fire which began outside and spread to the exterior of a duplex home at 6-8 Fayette Road Thursday.

According to a release from the Bedford Fire Department, firefighters responded to the duplex, and noticed that the fire had began to threaten the home. Three residents were asleep inside at the time of the fire, and were safely evacuated with the help of firefighters.

No injuries were suffered as a result of the fire.

"This is an example of what happens when firefighters arrive quickly and make an aggressive and efficient attack on a fire scene," Chief David Grunes said in a statement. "Thankfully, our firefighters were able to prevent any significant damage to this duplex, which means that two families are not left homeless in our community today."

Minor damage was done to the outside of the home, and the house had to be ventilated. Grunes estimated the damage to be less than $10,000.stated that preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was likely caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Grunes also added that that preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was likely caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.

"Our firefighters did a great job and should be very proud of their actions," Grunes said in a statement.
