Playwright to Speak Before MCC’s ‘The Women of Lockerbie'

Award-winning playwright Deborah Brevoort to speak prior to MCC's performance of her play

On Thursday, Sept. 26, award-winning playwright Deborah Brevoort will speak prior to Middlesex Community College Theatre Department’s performance of her play, “The Women of Lockerbie,” 2-4 p.m. at the Richard & Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center Theatre, 240 Central St., Lowell. All are encouraged and welcome to attend this free lecture!

“We are so fortunate that we have the opportunity to meet Deborah not only for the thrill of having her in the audience, but to engage in critical conversations regarding her playwrighting process and the impact ‘The Women of Lockerbie’ has had on us in our own process,” says Karen Oster, MCC’s Chair of Performing Arts.

MCC’s Theatre Department will stage Brevoort’s “The Women of Lockerbie” in five performances Sept. 26 through Sept. 29. Curtain times for “The Women of Lockerbie” are 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday Sep. 28; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sep. 29.

In “The Women of Lockerbie,” a grieving mother searches Lockerbie, Scotland for her son’s remains, who died in the Pan Am 103 crash. She comes into contact with the women of Lockerbie who, in an act of compassion, want to salvage the clothes of the victims to give back to their families, but are met with resistance by the United States Government.
