1. Lexington Community Education presents: Poems For My Coloring Book

Why Go: Because this LCE event promises "A Celebration of Sound & Vision" featuring a reading by Lexington poet Marcia Steere and music of the Wayside Quartet, a Concord-based outfit that performs classical and popular music.

2. Colonial 12th Night Celebration
Where/When: 33 N Great Rd, Lincoln; 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5
Why Go: Because Friends of Minute Man National Historical Park will be hosting a festive 12th Night celebration featuring colonial reenactors and refreshments.

3. Toni Lynn Washington with the Workingman's Band
Where/When: Concord's Colonial Inn, 48 Monument Sq, Concord; 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5
Why Go: According to the event description, vocalist Toni Lynn Washington, known as Boston's Queen of the Blues, will perform jazz rhythm & blues with the Workingman's Band, which includes Tom Yates on guitar, Rick Maida on base and Mike Avery on drums.

4. World Hypnotism Day
Where/When: Hilton Boston-Woburn, 2 Forbes Rd, Woburn; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6
Why Go: According to the event description, "Leading experts in the profession of hypnotism and other self-help holistic professionals will be on hand to explain the benefits of hypnosis, while removing the myths and misconceptions, to help people of all ages." And, 100 percent of proceeds from all admission and raffle tickets sold will go to Children’s Friend, Inc., a private, not-for-profit agency that has been serving children and families since 1849.

Why Go: Because there will be live music from a variety of traditions and cultures, and all dances will be taught and are appropriate for ages 5 and up.
