Police Log: Annoying ATVs and Senior Scavenger Hunters

The following information was provided by the Bedford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, May 17

1:54 a.m. – Hanscom Air Force Base’s law enforcement desk reported witnessing a possible explosion on base, about 1,000 meters past the flight line. Responders reported nothing found.

5:58 a.m. – An abandoned 911 call came in from the DoubleTree Hotel on Middlesex Turnpike. On a subsequent 911 call, BPD determined a hotel guest was erroneously dialing 911 while attempting to call the front desk.

9:27 a.m. – An officer radioed in to report a pit bull running free in the North Road area. The officer was able to locate the dog’s owner, who took control of his pet.

3:32 p.m. – Police responded to a report of youths riding an ATV on Washington Street, but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

8:36 p.m. – An anonymous caller reported another motorist, now in the area of Liberty, “pretended to pull a rope across the road, almost caused him to crash.” The responding officer spoke with the involved individual and advised him to cease and desist.

9:21 p.m. – Police responded to a report of youths riding ATVs and throwing firecrackers along Washington Street.

10:33 p.m. – A call came in reporting a suspicious person in the bushes by the Bedford Free Public Library using his computer. The person in question was reportedly just charging his phone.

Saturday, May 18

10:24 a.m. – A call came in reporting people attending a plant sale at the Church on the Common were parking in such a way as to block traffic in the area of at Elm and Maple streets. The responding officer issued a few citations.

12:49 p.m. – Police responded to a report of youths operating ATVs on Washington Street. The responding officer spoke with an involved resident and made clear that those vehicles cannot be operated on the roads.

2:56 p.m. – A Dunster Road resident called 911 to report receiving annoying phone calls. The responding officer determined the calls were coming from a friend playing a prank.

3:01 p.m. – A Shawsheen Road resident came into the station to report a possible phone scam in which the caller reported having his father and demanded money to release him.

4:34 p.m. – An anonymous caller reported a loud party on Springs Road. The responding officers reported locating the origin of the noise – a few people trying out their new karaoke machine.

Sunday, May 19

6:21 a.m. – A 911 call came in reporting a pig in the roadway in the area of North Great Road and Lincoln. Police from Lincoln were notified and responded.

2:17 p.m. – A person walked into the station to report a bald white man was sitting in a silver Toyota Camry and drinking wine in the library parking lot. The responding officer reported the vehicle was unoccupied.

6:12 p.m. – Police responded to a report of a 3-year-old locked inside a car in the Stop & Shop parking lot. The responding officer was able to gain access to the vehicle.

Monday, May 20

7:46 a.m. – Police responded to a reported two-car accident in the area of Great Road and Hillside Ave.

10:39 a.m. – A Concord Road resident reported someone drove by his home and “yelled swear words at him.”

11:17 a.m. – Police responded to a reported verbal domestic near the bike patch off Loomis Street.

2:07 p.m. – A passing motorist reported a toddler was hanging out of a window on the first floor of the Bedford Plaza Hotel on Great Road. The responding offier reported the child’s mother was inside the room and it checked OK.

3:30 p.m. – Police responded to a report of three juveniles causing a disturbance at Bedford Village and spoke with the youths. No further police action was needed, according to the incident report.

7:16 p.m. – An anonymous caller reported a juvenile operating a four-wheeler on Washington Street. The responding officer reported speaking with the juvenile, and that no additional action would be needed.

Tuesday, May 21

11:45 a.m. – Police responded to Elm Brook Place for a woman’s report she that she was assaulted on the Minuteman Bikeway.

4:33 p.m. – A caller reported an attempted fraud that allegedly occurred at Whole Foods on Great Road.

6:05 p.m. – As a result of a motor vehicle stop on Hartwell Road, Patrick Sabatino, of 57 Main St., North Chelmsford, was arrested for operating after his license was suspended. Incident No. 2013000004596

11:34 p.m. – A call came in reporting an injured raccoon on Great Road, in the area of Loomis Street. The responding officer reported the animal made its way off the road and did not present a hazard.

Wednesday, May 22

9:26 a.m. – Emergency responders were called to Hologic on Crosby Drive for a report of a person stuck in an elevator.

12:25 p.m. – Police received a report of construction vehicles parking on the sidewalk along Hancock Street. Officers spoke with the site contractor, reminding him to keep the sidewalk clear.

1:27 p.m. – A caller reported the occupants of a silver Jeep parked at Page Field might have been smoking an illegal substance. The responding officer reported there was no illegal activity, but the three youths were sent on their way.

5:24 p.m. – An Orchard Road resident reported cars were using the street as a cut through, and driving very fast.

9:26 p.m. – A 911 call came in from D’Angelo sandwich shop reporting several youths came into the store and showed their rear-ends to the employees and customers before fleeing the scene in a blue Ford Explorer. The responding officer reported all was in order at D’angelo’s, and the prank was “probably done by high school students from their scavenger hunt.”

9:51 p.m. – As a result of a motor vehicle stop on Great Road, Patrick Sabatino, of 57 Main St., North Chelmsford, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle after his license was suspended.

11:24 p.m. – A Riverside Avenue resident reported hearing loud banging at her door and a group of people yelling “Merry Christmas.” The responding officers reported the incident may have been related to “Senior Prank Night,” but the group was gone on arrival.

Thursday, May 23

12:02 a.m. – A Sweetwater Avenue resident reported youths throwing toilet paper on houses in the area of the Job Lane School. The responding officer reported he was unable to locate any property damage and he “sent the involved parties on their way.”

12:02 a.m. – An officer radioed in to report encountering a large group of kids taking pictures on Great Road for their senior class scavenger hunt. The kids were sent on their way and advised to discontinue taking pictures, the incident report said.

12:11 a.m. – An anonymous call came in reporting a loud group of people and cars in the area of the Davis School. The responding officers reported all was in order and the senior class was completing its scavenger hunt; the kids were advised to keep the noise down.

11:22 a.m. – Police responded to a report of a suspicious man on a bicycle wearing sunglasses, black gloves and a blue T-shirt. The rider was reportedly last seen in the Lido Lane area, but police were unable to locate the man in question.

1:55 p.m. – Bedford Farms employees requested that police speak with a man sitting on a bench out in front of the shop on North Road, who was allegedly causing a scene and speaking loudly. The responding officer reported the man was a resident of the nearby Bedford Motel and was just speaking loudly.

4:46 p.m. – Police responded to a report of a Dodge Caravan stolen from the CVS Pharmacy on Great Road. The vehicle was located in the parking lot.

5:31 p.m. – A person came into the station to report a hit-and-run accident that occurred earlier at the Starbucks on Great Road.

11:59 p.m. – An officer radioed in to report a standing water issue creating a hazard on the Great Road heading westbound. The was notified, and reported notification should be made to the Massachusetts Highway Authority, which was subsequently alerted to the situation.
