Prepare for a Remote/Hybrid Work Environment with Middlesex CC

As part of MCC's CET program, employees can take courses and certificates to help them be more successful in a remote or hybrid role

“In the face of an ever-changing workforce, Middlesex Community College is prepared to adapt and respond to the needs of employers and employees in the Commonwealth,” said Sheila Morin, MCC’s Director of Community Education and Training (CET). “As the COVID-19 pandemic has increased remote and hybrid work options, MCC’s noncredit programs offer a variety of courses to equip employees with skills that will help them thrive in both settings.”

Whether interested in starting a new position or advancing in a current role, Middlesex has a series of flexible and affordable options for employees seeking professional development. As part of MCC’s CET program, employees can take noncredit on campus and online courses and certificates to help them be more successful in a remote or hybrid role.

To better understand Microsoft Office suite programs – Word, PowerPoint, Excel – employees can choose between program-specific or general classes covering a range of topics. Courses include the basics of Microsoft Office, from inserting tables, tabs and columns in Word to learning how to format worksheets or create formulas on Excel.

In MCC’s new hybrid Google IT Support Professional course, employees are prepared to get entry-level roles in IT support ­­– positions that are often completed remotely or a mix of in person and online. In the class, employees learn how to troubleshoot, network, provide customer service, and work with different operating systems.

Middlesex also offers a course on Management for IT Professionals that can help employees learn introductory skills on how to manage employees in the industry. Employees can hone leadership skills, business practices and communication skills relevant to in person, remote and hybrid working environments.

Another course introduces prospective employees to careers as security professionals with MCC’s CompTia Security+ Certification Prep course. The class prepares employees to manage basic security concepts and applications. An introduction to the Linux desktop system course teaches employees about functions related to Microsoft Windows and Macintosh, as well as working with multimedia programs.

MCC’s Technical Writing certificate helps employees find positions that allow them to work in a remote, hybrid or in person environment. Courses include topics on the tools and technologies of the industry and how to write and manage effective information. As part of the certificate, employees gain skills, a writing portfolio and networking opportunities that will help them succeed in a number of industries, including IT, software, education, journalism and business.

In partnerships with Cengage Learning, Ed2go and MindEdge Learning, MCC’s CET offers online, open enrollment career training programs employees can complete to gain workforce skills at their own time and pace. Topics include arts and design, business, computer applications, computer science, health and fitness, hospitality, IT, project management, data analytics, human resources and writing – all industries which may offer remote or hybrid positions.
