Register for MCC’s College for Kids Online Summer Classes

MCC's College for Kids summer programming will be online. Registration opens Friday

Summer is coming and Middlesex Community College wants to help bring back a sense of normalcy, learning and routine for youths. Middlesex has transitioned College for Kids to online formats for this summer’s programming. With 21 years of experience as a leader of online education, MCC’s online programs offer high-quality content and immersive experiences.

Registration for College for Kids opens on Friday, February 19. The program will feature seven weeks of half day programs taking place from 8:30 a.m. to noon, or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for children and teens ages 8 to 17. The program will run from July 6 through August 19.

These interactive and engaging summer programs provide children and teens with unique opportunities to explore careers, learn new skills, meet new friends and boost self-confidence – while keeping them safe and having fun. Programs are taught by public-school teachers and professionals who are experts in their field.

“Last year’s transition to online classes was a tremendous success and our students loved being able to continue taking our classes,” said Lauren Ellis, MCC’s Program Manager for Community Education and Training. “From photography to fashion design, online gaming to graphic and web design, and creative writing to filmmaking – we offer an assortment of exciting programs taught by a wonderful team of educators who are able to create a fun online world of learning.”

This summer, other topics students can explore include science, cooking and arts and crafts. Students in last year’s online courses believed the online format worked well and that College for Kids was a productive way to stay busy while safe at home.

“We appreciate how well the sessions were structured and how it allowed for both instruction and hands-on time,” said Chelmsford-native Alexis Treat – whose daughter Caroline took an online class. “We also appreciate how it allowed her to participate and engage independently.”

From Ayer, Alison Chase’s daughter Jaiya flourished with a new creative outlet.

“She was busy, engaged and happy all day,” said Ayer-native Alison Chase of her daughter Jaiya. “And now she has a great base of learning that I know she’ll keep working on – especially in this time of pandemic when she cannot be doing a lot of her other normal activities.”

Allie Porter – from Littleton – is a past participant of College for Kids who enjoyed MCC’s digital photography class and medical lab science camp.

“It was a fun experience getting to take pictures outside and meet new friends,” she said. “Medical Lab science camp was really fun – we got to do experiments and learn about phlebotomy. It was so much more fun than real science class!"
