MCC's Mini-mesters maximize students' time and effort and help students reach their goals and stay on track

Middlesex Community College’s Mini-mesters maximize students’ time and effort. These accelerated eight-week sessions help students reach their goals and stay on their paths with affordable, flexible and high-quality course options. MCC’s Spring Mini-mester II starts on Monday, March 29.
With Mini-mesters, students complete general requirements and earn credits with the same high-quality content, academic standards and number of instructional hours as courses scheduled in the traditional 15-week semester. Students can earn credits in a variety of subjects, including English, science, history, social science, mathematics and more.
“The Mini-mester format allows students to finish prerequisites and take the subsequent course during the same semester,” said Aisha Arroyo, MCC Math Faculty Member. “For example, a student who finishes their RAMP-Up Modules in the beginning of the semester could take my Statistics course in Mini-mester II instead of waiting until Summer or Fall."

In MCC Business Professor Stacie Hargis’ Launch Your Business Now program, Mini-mesters allow students to better fit their studies into their life among work and other responsibilities.
“Our Launch Your Business Now Mini-mester options provide students with a format to dive right into a business plan and actively work on operations to launch their business,” Hargis said. “This is similar to popular accelerator programs in the startup ecosystem.”

MCC’s Spring Mini-mester II will continue to offer the majority of its classes online. Throughout its 50 years as an institution, the college has a 21-year history of award-winning online education and effective teaching. Featuring curriculums designed to run online, MCC’s courses allow students to interact with content, professors and classmates in immersive and meaningful ways.
Online courses will run via three primary learning modalities – asynchronous online, synchronous online and a hybrid blend of online and face-to-face.
In asynchronous online learning, students work independently while meeting deadlines, engage with materials and other students on their own schedules, and have on-going access to online resources, pre-recorded lessons and tutorials.
Students taking synchronous online courses attend live classes at specific dates and times, and engage with professors and classmates in a live, remote setting using a camera and microphone.
Blended face-to-face with online courses allow students to complete coursework online and come to campus only to finish practical experiences in a safe and controlled setting while following MCC’s strict safety protocols and social distancing.
