Registering Early for MCC’s Fall Semester Provides Many Benefits

Students can set themselves up for success by registering early for Middlesex Community College's Fall 2023 semester

Students can set themselves up for success by registering early for Middlesex Community College’s Fall 2023 semester. With classes starting on Tuesday, September 5, students who register now can position themselves for a strong start in the Fall while enjoying summer.

“Whether new or returning, students who register early often feel more comfortable going into the start of a new semester,” said Scott O’Neil, MCC’s Dean of Enrollment Services. “Summer is a great time for students to figure out academic steps, gain a sense of what MCC offers, and know from day one what they need to do to be successful now and in the future.”

MCC students who register early have a better choice of classes without worrying about them filling up. One of the benefits of attending Middlesex includes the flexibility of creating a schedule to match individual needs. Classes are offered in a traditional 15-week semester or two eight-week accelerated Mini-mesters. Students can also decide which format works best for them with a choice of in-person, online, hybrid and hyflex classes.

Registering early also provides students with the opportunity to meet with MCC advisors and staff members. In knowing how to get assistance – as well as recognizing a friendly face – students have a better idea of what they need to do from their time at MCC to get to their next steps. Connecting with people at the college allows them to figure out which classes they need to take to fulfill general education requirements, explore majors, and plan for what comes next.

Students who develop and follow a plan now will avoid any confusion and feelings of being rushed at the end of the summer and beginning of Fall. This offers a chance to learn more about MCC’s programs, student support services and resources that will help students be successful – before having to balance everything with the start of classes and coursework.

One of the major benefits of taking courses at Middlesex is saving thousands on tuition costs. By registering early, students will have more time to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). MCC students also have access to financial aid and wellness advisors who can help them decide on payment plans and the best ways to save money now and in the future.

On Mondays through September, MCC will host FAFSA Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Bedford and Lowell campuses for students to meet one-on-one with financial aid counselors, get their questions answered, and go through the application process.

Students who register ahead of the Fall semester can take full advantage of MCC’s Orientation Plus. This includes an online orientation and a First Year Experience (FYE) 1-credit course offered in August. In addition to earning a college credit and exploring a field of interest, students will get to know the college, campus and community. Students meet with classmates, faculty and staff before their first official day.

MCC’s Fall 2023 semester begins Tuesday, September 5. Students still have the chance to register for a summer course with a five-week Summer Session starting on Tuesday, July 11.
