Robert Pinsky to Read as Part of Concert Inspired by His Poetry
Plus world premiere of four pieces inspired by the former U.S. Poet Laureate's work: 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, in Lowell

A World of Music, Middlesex Community College’s 2018 spring concert series concludes with “Poetry Through Music – With a Focus on Robert Pinsky,” the world premiere of four pieces inspired by the poetry of Robert Pinsky, to be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, in MCC’s Federal Building Assembly Room, 50 Kearney Square, Lowell.
Free and open to the public, the concert will also feature Pinsky reading one of his poems, accompanied by an improvised jazz flute solo.
MCC faculty members Orlando Cela, flute, and Carmen Rodriguez-Peralta, piano, will be joined by soprano Carley DeFranco to perform the new works inspired by Pinsky’s evocative and thoughtful poetry. Featured composers are MCC faculty members Richard Chowenhill, David Janssen, Pamela Marshall and Aaron Rosenberg.

The program will also include settings of German, French and Spanish poetry by Richard Strauss, Albert Roussel and Astor Piazzolla.
This concert is part of MCC’s 2018 La Guagua Literary Festival, an Interdisciplinary (IDS) Weekend course exploring themes of cultural diversity and social inequality through literary work.
