Shawsheen Tech Student Arrested For Snapchat Threat: DA

A 15-year-old is accused of sending out a video of him holding what appeared to be a rifle and threatening a school shooting.

BILLERICA, MA – A student at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School has been arrested in connection with a Snapchat video allegedly threatening a school shooting, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. The 15-year-old boy allegedly sent out a Snapchat video showing him holding a weapon that looked like an assault rifle and making threatening comments.

The video was sent to four other students, according to the DA.

Police searched a Tewksbury home Monday night at the request of the boy's mother after she found the video. Officers seized an airsoft rifle and airsoft handgun, as well as the video. No weapons were found in the home, the DA's office said.

Investigators do not believe the video was circulated beyond the four teens; however, they encourage anyone with information or who may have seen the video to contact Tewksbury police at 978-851-7373. The student has been charged with threatening the use of a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime.

Authorities said they are not aware of any threat to the school, though there will be an increased police presence on Tuesday "out of an abundance of caution." The teen charged in connection with the video was arraigned in Lowell Juvenile Court Tuesday.
