Starting in the Dual Enrollment program, twin sisters Giancy and Yeranly Batista, of Methuen, decided to continue their education at Middlesex Community College. Both interested in pursuing careers in healthcare fields, Giancy entered MCC’s dental hygiene program while Yeranly studied radiologic technology. At the 2026 commencement, they walked across the stage of the Lowell Memorial Auditorium ready to being their careers.

“My education at MCC will help me get my foot in the door to many opportunities in the future,” Giancy said. “MCC has been a great benchmark for the career path that I want to get into. My experience at MCC has been very valuable and positive. I have learned many things, and MCC has helped me accomplish my career goals.”

Graduating as a dental assistant at her vocational high school, Giancy wanted to advance in her career at MCC to become a dental hygienist. The program features high-quality equipment and technology she will be using in her job. She also had the opportunity to work with patients in the dental hygiene clinic open to the community.

MCC’s program also offered supportive professors and clinical instructors who guided Giancy. From providing comprehensive curriculum to helping her navigate the clinic environment, Giancy feels set up for success as she transitions into the workforce. She also benefitted from attending events at and beyond Middlesex, including the Yankee Dental Conference in Boston.

“These experiences are very valuable because it allows me to expand and progress as a student,” Giancy said. “Being able to see a diversity of people and get the chance to speak to others about dental health helps me become a better clinician in the future.”

Working as a medical assistant since she was 16, Yeranly then became a pharmacy technician. These experiences introduced her to the rad tech field and sparked her interest in pursuing the career. Before graduating from high school, she spoke to MCC’s advisors who assisted her in planning out her schedule and path. MCC’s rad tech program offered the perfect combination of classes and pace that worked for her schedule.

As part of the program, Yeranly joined the Massachusetts Society of Radiologic Technology where she was able to attend a conference to network with vendors from local hospitals and review for her boards. She also completed clinicals at two hospitals. Under supervision, she was able to perform tasks such as X-rays on patients. At Newton-Wellesley Hospital, she found a mentor in her clinical preceptor who made sure the students understood their role and had the skills and tools they needed.

“She understood the responsibilities each student has outside of clinicals and would always try to work with the students,” Yeranly said. “While I am at clinical, I can further develop my patient care skills. I can see real-world experiences gaining my confidence. My education here at MCC will help me start a foundation for my future.”

Before graduating, Yeranly accepted a radiology technologist job at Lahey Hospital. She plans to earn a bachelor’s at Regis College in medical imaging. Giancy is also interested in continuing her education and one day working as a clinical instructor. For now, she looks forward to serving the community as a dental hygienist.

From earning early college credit in the Dual Enrollment program to finding their career pathways, both sisters believe Middlesex provided the foundation to their journeys.

“MCC is great at getting you where you need to be,” Yeranly said. “My overall experience at MCC has been very positive and beneficial for my future. Getting my associate degree will only be my starting point for my career.”
