Earlier this month, the organization "Thanksgiving for Veterans" distributed Turkey Meals to go at two of the Peabody Companies the Veteran Supportive Housing sites, Bedford Green in Bedford and Pleasant Street Apartments in Beverly. Thanksgiving for Veterans was started by Donald Barnard and his wife Shaina Barnard in 2020, and have increased the number of meals they provide every year since. Since 2020, they have been raising funds from families and friends so they can distribute Thanksgiving-style meals to-go to transitional and permanent supportive housing of formerly homeless Veterans. They work with local restaurants in the community they feed, to encourage support of local businesses. The organization has provided meals to Bedford Green for the past three years and Pleasant Street Apartments for the past four. All the residents expressed how nice it was to have a delicious hot meal during these snowy/post-holiday days.
