4th Annual Walk to End Homelessness Set for October 21 at Lynch Park

North Shore residents invited to unite in a fun three-mile stroll to help vulnerable families in the Family Promise program.

North Shore residents will participate in the fourth annual Walk to End Homelessness on Saturday, October 21 starting at 8:00 a.m. at Lynch Park (with walkers set to begin at 9:00 a.m.). The event is organized by Family Promise North Shore Boston, a nonprofit organization that harnesses the efforts of hundreds of volunteers from an interdenominational network of faith communities across the North Shore, as well as dedicated staff, to provide temporary housing, meals, and personalized case management to children and parents experiencing homelessness.

Those interested in participating should go online to bit.ly/walk-to-end-homelessness. From there, participants can register to either join up with an existing walk team, create their own walk team and recruit others to walk with them, or sign up as an individual participant.

The three-mile walk begins and ends at Lynch Park, where speakers will briefly share information about homelessness on the North Shore and what Family Promise is doing to end homelessness one family at a time. Walkers are expected from the dozen North Shore communities with congregations that host or support families in the Family Promise program: Beverly, Danvers, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Marblehead, Peabody, Rockport, Salem, Swampscott, and Wenham.

“We’re encouraged by the progress our communities have made, and the plans in place to serve vulnerable families in the future,” says Russell Queen, executive director of Family Promise North Shore Boston.

Morning beverages and breakfast snacks will be available. Walkers are encouraged to enjoy a fall morning together with their neighbors while making a loop through the heart of downtown Beverly. The Walk to End Homelessness has been held annually since 2014, bringing hundreds of North Shore residents together for the event each year.
