5 Things to Know, July 11: Free Slurpees on 7-11 Day
A great way to start the day with a quick look at the events and happenings in the city.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily source for community events, happenings in the city and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Thursday, July 11.
1. Humidity: The humidity will stick around for another day on Thursday, with the temperature in the 80s again. It will be a mostly cloudy day with again the chance of an afternoon shower and thunderstorm. A flash flood watch remains in effect because of the chance of flooding from heavy rain in one of the showers.
2. Slurpee: It’s that day again – the annual 7-11 day where the 7-Eleven chain of convenience store give out a free small Slurpee on the date that is the same as the chain’s name. The Slurpees are available between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at several local stores, including the location on Elliott Street (Route 62) and locations in Peabody and Salem.

3. Fossils: Fossil hunter Paulette Morin will be at Beverly Public Library on Thursday for a special program at 10 a.m. She is planning to bring along more than 100 fossil specimens and is appearing as part of the library’s "Dig Into Reading" summer reading program. It takes places in the Sohier Room on the first floor and is free, open to all and does not require advance registration.
4. Fresh Air Fund: The children taking part in this year’s Fresh Air Fund visit to the North Shore arrive on Thursday. There will be 26 children age 6-18 arriving at Masconomet Regional Middle and High School from New York City, staying with families here in Beverly plus several other North Shore communities. The children will be here for two weeks, with “some children leaving home for the first time, while others are returning to visit the same host families for consecutive summers,” according to an announcement from the program.
