6 Newburyport, Rockport Commuter Rail Trains Canceled

Damage from yesterday's storm is to blame, says the train operator.

BEVERLY, MA — If you were planning on taking the commuter rail tonight somewhere you might want to think again: Six Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail trains were canceled tonight because of what that historic tidal surge did to the line, Keolis and MBTA are reporting.

These train times are Rockport Train 113 (3:35 p.m. outbound) and 120 (5:08 p.m. inbound); Beverly Train 193 (4:40 p.m. outbound) and 194 (5:35 p.m. inbound); and Newburyport Train 171 (5:40 p.m. outbound) and 176 (7:08 p.m. inbound).

The cancellations comes after the first blizzard of 2018 rocked much of the state yesterday, prompting municipal shut downs for a day and then two days of no school for students.

Keolis and MBTA employees worked long hours during yesterday’s blizzard, Keolis said adding that many are still working to maintain equipment and clear switches, tracks of ice and snow.

Despite the days extreme temperatures the rail was running its regular Friday schedule, with minor delays as clean-up and other snow operations continued. Still both the MBTA and operating partner encouraged folks to dress warmly and check schedules before traveling.
