62-Unit Apartment Complex Coming To Beverly Waterfront

BEVERLY, MA — A developer that closed on a $3.5 million purchase of a vacant lot at 10 Congress Street plans to begin work "immediately" on a 62-unit apartment complex. Procopio Companies of Saugus purchased the Ventron site next to the Beverly-Salem bridge, which has already gotten city approvals for 72 condominium units. In the 1980s the federal government spent $11 million to clean up the 3.7-acre site, which previously housed a company that converted uranium oxide to uranium metal powder used in the first atomic bomb.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, Procopio plans to open the apartments by the third quarter of 2020. Rents will be in the "low to mid $2,000" per month range. Procopio is planning a public boardwalk along the waterfront of the property and will include public parking.
