'Structurally Deficient' Bridges: Do You Use Them?
In a new report, 133 bridges in the 6th congressional district's are classified as "structurally deficient."

A new report on Massachusetts' bridges found that 11 percent of the 6th congressional district's bridges are classified as structurally deficient. To be structurally deficient, a bridge must have one or more key elements (the deck, superstructure, or substructure) in poor or worse condition.
Of the 1,167 bridges in this district, 133 were found to be structurally deficient in the American Road & Transportation Builders Association report. The report found that 542 bridges, of 46 percent, were functionally obsolete, or don't meet design standards in line with current practices.
The repairs the state has identified on 1,047 bridges in the district are estimated to cost $4 billion.
