Beverly Warrior Weekend To Feature Black Hawk Helicopter Landings

Landings at the high school are planned for Saturday and Sunday morning.

BEVERLY, MA —The fourth annual Warrior Weekend in Beverly will include up to two Black Hawk military helicopter landings at Beverly High School as part of two days of re-enactments, apparatus, ceremonies, veterans services, Touch-a-Truck and live animal exhibitions.

Beverly Veterans Services Agent David Perinchief said that a Black Hawk helicopter is planned for Saturday morning at 9 to kick off the program, with another planned for Sunday morning. Both landings are subject to change pending late mission assignments.

Area residents are advised that military vehicles, aircraft and ammunition discharges will be at the high school throughout the weekend.

Participants are also still being sought for the Saturday blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who want to pre-register for the drive can do so here.

Another special moment is planned this year when a historic American military flag dating back nearly two centuries to the Regiment of Mounted Calvary — believed tucked away for decades before being found in an attic at the Hamilton Community House in South Hamilton — will be presented back to the 3d Cavalry Regiment of Fort Hood, Texas.

The flag will be presented to the Regiment's Sergeant Major Billy Hendrix, at the Memorial Ceremony at Warrior Weekend on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Beverly High School in time for it to be returned to Fort Hood for the 180th anniversary of the Regiment's founding on May 19, 1846.

Warrior Weekend, which annually brings more than 5,000 visitors to the North Shore, returns to Beverly High School on May 16 and May 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
