BEVERLY, MA — The Beverly Police Department will begin alcohol compliance checks at all licensed establishments in the city starting in July 2026 and continuing through the 2026 calendar year.
Police said the checks are intended to make sure liquor license holders in Beverly are following regulations set by the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.
The compliance checks will include the use of an underage operative who will not have any valid identification and will attempt to buy alcohol.
Beverly police also said the department will monitor licensed establishments for underage activity and work with establishments to deter underage customers.
The notice is designed to be a reminder for licensed establishments to train employees to check identification properly so underage people are not sold alcohol. Licensed establishments found in violation may be requested to appear before the City of Beverly Licensing Board.
Police also announced marijuana and THC product compliance checks that will take place throughout the city.
Those checks begin immediately. The stated purpose is to ensure properly licensed marijuana establishments are following the state Cannabis Control Commission's regulations and City of Beverly ordinances.
The notice said checks will be conducted with retailers across Beverly, including establishments licensed to sell tobacco, to make sure THC products are not being sold without a proper license.
