The longtime Beverly police event will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lynch Park Parking Lot on Aug. 7.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly police will once again host the annual George Robertson Bicycle Safety Rodeo, a community bike safety event that the department said has been running for more than 35 years as part of Beverly Homecoming.

The rodeo is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lynch Park Parking Lot on Aug. 7.

Children are encouraged to learn about bicycle safety and test their skills on a special safety course. The event is open to all ages.

"Don't forget their bicycles so they can learn about bicycle safety and they are able to test their riding skills out on our special safety course," police said.

The event will also include free safety equipment for participants — including new helmets, bicycle headlights, taillights and reflective safety gear.

"We would like to thank the Kiwanis Group who continue to raise money for helmets and assist us with this special event," police said.

Centraal Cycle is also a longtime supporter that provides helmets and bicycle safety items at cost.
