BEVERLY, MA — Beverly boaters are advised that changes are coming soon to Beverly Harbor, where the Lobster Rock Monument is scheduled to be removed in the coming weeks.

The Coast Guard disestablished the #13A Daymark in 2020 and is now moving forward with the removal of the supporting granite structure.

The monument has stood for well over a century and has served as a visual navigation reference for generations of mariners navigating the surrounding mooring fields, according to the Beverly Harbormaster. Its removal marks a notable change in a busy part of the harbor used by local boaters and visiting mariners.

"Mariners should use extra caution when navigating this area," the Harbormaster said. "It can be a challenging and busy section of the harbor, with currents coming out of the Danvers River and two nearby fuel docks.

"Don't be fooled by what you see at high tide. Lobster Rock is exposed at low tide but completely submerged at high tide. What may appear to be one open, unobstructed mooring field is actually divided by this hidden hazard.

"Stay alert, maintain a proper lookout, and stay in the marked channel — especially if you're unfamiliar with the local hazards."
