BEVERLY, MA — Beverly's Community Preservation Committee will open the 2026-2027 Community Preservation Act funding round with a public hearing in September.
The hearing is set for Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Beverly Police Station, 175 Eliot Street, Beverly.
Residents are being encouraged to attend to learn more about the program and share their thoughts on community priorities.
The hearing will begin with a presentation about the Community Preservation Act, the amount of funding available, the types of projects that are eligible and an overview of projects funded in the past.
Members of the public are encouraged to share their thoughts regarding the needs of the community, priorities and possible projects.
Beverly adopted the Community Preservation Act in 2012. The law allows the Community Preservation Committee to provide grants to certain projects that benefit the city and its residents.
The committee reviews applications submitted by individuals and groups in the community and makes funding recommendations to the Beverly City Council.
Funding for CPA projects comes from local and state tax revenue set aside for that purpose. In Beverly, there is a 1 percent surcharge on taxes levied against real property. For fiscal year 2026, there was $1,327,046 in local and state tax revenue available, plus unspent funds carried over from previous years.
Under the CPA, four types of projects may receive funding: open space, recreation, historic preservation and community housing. Since the act was adopted, the funds have been reinvested in the community through grants to 100 projects.
Recently awarded projects include improvements to GAR Hall at 8 Dane Street and upgrades to many city parks.
