BEVERLY, MA — The historic Cabot Theater in Beverly will mark the completion of this phase of its renovation project with a free community celebration on Sept. 15.
The "Light The Night" event begins at 6:30 p.m. outside the theater on Cabot Street, where guests will see the venue's new sculptural sail installation light up for the first time.
The sails were designed by Beverly-based architecture firm SV Design. The installation is the last piece of this phase of renovations, which the theater said was first envisioned when The Cabot's Five Founders saved the theater in 2014.
Renovations began in 2015 with major structural work, followed by upgrades focused on patron comfort, including seats and HVAC.
This most recent phase also included restoration of the historic rose window, installation of a blade vertical sign in the style of the 1920 original, new green rooms for performers, a new pre-show lounge for Cabot supporters, and a refreshed facade.
Brian Ridolfo, president and CEO of The Cabot, tied the latest work to the theater's longer renovation effort.
"Twelve years ago, our Five Founders saved this historic theater," he said. "Today, with our sign echoing its 1920 original and a sculptural sail installation honoring Beverly's coastal identity, we're finally realizing the transformation they set out to achieve.".
After the free outdoor celebration, the event will continue inside the theater with a $10 ticketed performance by local band Rule of 3 Experience. The performance will feature Cabot co-founder and board member Rich Marino.
"This renovation belongs to Beverly as much as it belongs to us," Ridolfo said. "Our neighbors, patrons and local businesses all carried us through this project with patience and enthusiasm, and we are especially grateful to the city of Beverly for its cooperation throughout the renovation process and for Community Preservation Act funding that supported the restoration of the historic half-rose window.
"Thank you for believing in this theater and for sticking with us every step of the way. These renovations will help ensure The Cabot is here for decades to come.:
