BEVERLY, MA — Beverly homeowners who need help paying for major repairs may still be able to get it through the Beverly Homeowner Rehabilitation Program, which is underway with funding still available.
The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, and run in partnership with Essex County Habitat for Humanity.
The program provides no-payment, interest-free, forgivable 15-year loans to low-income households that need financial and technical support for essential updates and code compliance improvements.
To qualify, household income must be at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income. Income limits are available here.
Several homes have already been approved for assistance. A housing rehabilitation specialist is inspecting properties, preparing scopes of work and seeking skilled tradespeople to bid on projects.
The work can include replacing decks, lead abatement, electrical and plumbing upgrades, roofing work and corrections tied to code-related issues.
Rehabilitation work can focus on critical home repairs needed to keep properties safe and healthy. That can include abatement of lead-based paint and asbestos hazards, repair or replacement of major systems such as heat, electric or plumbing, and weatherization through insulation and window and door upgrades.
The program also covers structural and foundation repairs, roof replacement, and barrier removal or handicap accessibility improvements intended to help disabled or elderly residents.
The goal is to support homeowners whose properties need substantial work but who may not have the resources to complete those repairs on their own.
Essex County Habitat for Humanity is also seeking licensed contractors to bid on homeowner rehabilitation jobs in Beverly.
