Beverly Car Crash Leads to Stolen Auto Arrests

The three men involved in a Friday accident on Cross Lane were driving a car reported stolen earlier this week, according to police.

Beverly, MA – Three men were arrested Friday after crashing a car reported stolen earlier this week. 

The accident occurred Friday when police in Beverly attempted to pursue a grey BMW reported stolen out of Roslindale on June 8. 

According to police, officers chased the car down Lovett Street, Hale Street and East Lothrop Street before it veered off the road and struck a tree and utility pole on Cross Lane.

David Langille, 42, of Beverly, was apprehended along with Troy Smith, 19, and Christopher Thomas, 29; all three were charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Thomas was arrested at the scene, while Langille was taken to Beverly Hospital after complaining of neck and back pain.

Smith, who police identified as the driver of the BMW, fled the scene and was taken into custody a short distance away. He received additional charges of operating to endanger, failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, marked lanes violation, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Police originally began investigating the vehicle after the BMW made an abrupt turn in the presence of officers; they believed the driver was attempting to avoid contact with law enforcement.
