Beverly Child Struck Near High School; Taken To Hospital With Injuries

Beverly Superintendent Sue Charochak said the boy was in stable condition Wednesday night.

BEVERLY, MA — A Beverly student struck outside of the high school Wednesday afternoon was in stable condition hours after being taken to the hospital via ambulance, according to Superintendent Sue Charochak.

"Our thoughts are with our student, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery," Beverly Superintendent Sue Charochak said in a statement released at about 7 p.m.

Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur said the student was struck while walking on campus after school. He said the boy was found suffering from upper body injuries and taken to a local hospital after receiving medical attention from officers and Beverly firefighters.

LeLacheur said the adult male driver of the Ford sedan that hit the boy stayed at the scene and was cooperative with police. He said charges are not expected against the driver at this time.

Police told WBZ-AM on Wednesday afternoon that the boy was a fifth-grade student.
