Beverly City Councilor At-Large Brendan Sweeney To Run For Re-Election

Sweeney is seeking his second term on the City Council after being first elected in 2021.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly At-Large City Councilor Brendan Sweeney told Patch on Tuesday that he intends to run for re-election this fall.

Sweeney was first elected to the Council in 2021 and has previously served in former Gov. Charlie Baker's financial management office. He is also currently the assistant town administrator in Boxford.

He is on the Board of Directors for the Kiwanis Club of Beverly and is an active volunteer in the city.

"Serving the people of Beverly for the past year and a half as one of your at-large city councilors has been the highlight of my career so far," Sweeney said in a statement announcing his candidacy. "I would be honored if the people of Beverly would continue to invest their trust and confidence in me for another term so that we can continue the important work of proactively preparing to face the challenges that will confront Beverly in the years ahead while working to preserve the many assets that make Beverly the unique, seaside New England community that so many of us love."

Sweeney cited the increased funding for education, road and sidewalk paving, increased public safety staff, city charter updates and reworked zoning ordinances among the accomplishments of the Council over the past two years.

Nomination papers for this fall's election were made available as of Tuesday.

The Beverly City Clerk's Office said that nomination papers for the fall 2023 election of the City Council, School Committee and are available in the Clerk's Office at City Hall.
