Beverly Cops Rescue Bridge Jumper From Water

At first, she was uncooperative with the police trying to save her, but the cops and a good Samaritan were able to hoist her to safety.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly police acted quickly on Monday responding to the area of the Veteran's Memorial Bridge on a report of a jumper who was already in the water.

The caller directed the cops to the Harbormaster's building where a man was holding the jumper, a 46-year-old Beverly woman, by the arm, still in the water and several feet below the top of the dock, police said in a press release.

Officers threw a rope around the woman intent on pulling her to safety. She was uncooperative, police say, and made "trying to lift her out of the water impossible."
