In the only hotly contested race, the one for Essex County Sheriff, Kevin F. Coppinger (611 votes) beat fellow Democrats Michael J. Marks (508) and Edward J. O'Reilly (485). James Jajuga Jr., got 93 to win the Republican primary.
Overall in Beverly, the Democratic voter turnout was 26.15 percent; The Republican voter turnout was 9.23 percent.
