Beverly Fire Dive Crew Assists In Body, Car Recovery In Hamilton Lake

BEVERLY, MA — The Beverly Fire Department Dive 1 Rescue team was involved in the search and recovery of a Wrentham man found dead in a Hamilton lake on Wednesday.

Hamilton police said a 73-year-old missing person from Wrentham, Steve Perry, a retired truck driver, was found along with his car near the boat ramp in Chebacco Lake.

Wrentham officials believe Perry was driving in the Hamilton area when he entered a darkened road that led to a boat landing and a pond, police said.

"Apparently disoriented, Mr. Perry accidentally drove into the water, submerging his vehicle, resulting in his death," Wrentham police wrote on the department's Facebook page.

WHDH-TV footage showed a late-model dark-colored sedan being raised from the water in Hamilton's Chebacco Lake and then taken away in a tow truck early Wednesday afternoon.

The Hamilton search was one of two water searches that the Beverly Fire Department reported being involved with on Wednesday morning with the other coming off the shores of Misery Island. No update had been provided as of Wednesday afternoon on the result of that search.
