Beverly High School Students Push To Lower Voting Age To 16

While their push was dealt a blow by Beverly City Council, the group is considering a Home Rule Petition or referendum.

BEVERLY, MA — A group of Beverly High School students that wants to lower the voting age in municipal elections to 16 will consider filing a Home Rule Petition or getting a referendum added to the ballot in an upcoming election to pass the measure. Beverly City Council voted 6-3 Monday against passing the new rules outright. In a presentation during on the measure, known as Vote16, in March, the students argued that lowering the voting age would increase civic participation among younger voters.
