Beverly Hires Contractor To Fix Traffic At New Middle School

The work is expected to cause delays during morning drop off for the next 10 days, according to Superintendent Steven Hiersche.

BEVERLY, MA -- City and school officials will try to fix traffic problems at the newly-opened middle school by widening the driveway at the Balch Street entrance. The school system hired a contractor to widen the driveway, and work was scheduled to begin on Monday, according to a note posted on the school system's Website. The work is expected to last 10 days and will run from 7 am to 2:45 am, meaning only one lane will be open to traffic during morning drop off.

"I would anticipate some delay in the morning," Superintendent Steven Hiersche said in the note. "During afternoon pick-up the driveway will be back to normal as work will be completed for the day and the driveway will return to two lanes. Please consider dropping your students off prior to getting to the driveway and letting them walk the rest of the way."

The new, $110 million school opened in September but has been plagued by traffic problems during morning drop off and afternoon pick up.
