Beverly Hurler Now One Notch Away from Majors

Jack Leathersich of Beverly was called up to the New York Mets' AAA team this week.

In his third year in professional baseball, left-handed pitcher Jack Leathersich of Beverly is just one level short of major league baseball after a call-up this week, reports the Salem News.

Leathersich, who was playing for the AA-level Binghamton Mets, got the call on Thursday and is now on the Las Vegas 51s, the team in the Mets farm system that is closest to the big league team in Queens.

This year in AA, Leathersich has struck out 55 batters in 29 1/3 innings, according to the News. He was named the Mets’ Minor League Player of the Month in May.
