Beverly Man Grabs Woman, Jumps In Front Of Truck In Gloucester

BEVERLY, MA — A Beverly man is facing attempted murder charges after grabbing a woman and jumping in front of oncoming dump truck in Gloucester Friday morning. Gloucester Police arrested Michael Baker, 41, of Beverly following the crash. The incident occurred on Washington Street in Gloucester.

Baker was taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. The woman was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital. Both are expected to survive.

Baker, who was also charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, is scheduled to be arraigned in Gloucester District Court on Monday. Witnesses, including the driver of the truck, told police the Baker and the woman were arguing on the sidewalk near 951 Washington Street. Baker then abruptly grabbed the woman and ran into traffic around 11 a.m. on Friday.
