Beverly Man Held Without Bail in Golf Club Stabbing

Curtis Day, 18, faces a litany of charges in the alleged attack in Wakefield Tuesday.

BEVERLY, MA – A Beverly man accused of stabbing an 18-year-old with a golf club in Wakefield Tuesday evening has been ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Curtis Day, 18, was arraigned Wednesday in Malden District Court. He is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

After being called to the Breakheart Reservation in Wakefield around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening for a report of an assault in progress, police discovered an 18-year-old man impaled through the neck area with the shaft of a metal golf club, the Middlesex County District Attorney's office said. The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital and has since been released.

Police were told that prior to the altercation, which ended when Day allegedly stabbed another man with the shaft of a broken club, he and two other men had allegedly taken illicit substances, according to the DA's office.

Day then allegedly stole a motor vehicle from a nearby residence and fled the scene; police reportedly found it crashed in the area of Main and Water streets in Wakefield after receiving a report of a motor vehicle driving erratically, the DA's office reported.

Shortly after the initial report, police received another call of a stolen motor vehicle matching the description of the one Day was allegedly operating without a driver's license, the DA's office said.

Day is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a dangerousness hearing.
