Beverly May Help Fund Affordable Housing Project

City Council will consider whether to kick in $250,000 for the first phase of an affordable housing project at a Feb. 19 public hearing.

BEVERLY, MA -- City Council will consider whether to spend $250,000 community preservation money for the first phase of an affordable housing project proposed for Sohier Road. Harborlight Community Partners, a Beverly-based affordable housing agency, wants to build Anchor Point, an apartment complex that would include 38 two- and three-bedroom family apartments. City Council will hold a hearing on the proposal to earmark money from the city's 1 percent sales tax surcharge on Feb. 19.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, backers eventually envision a $37.4 million complex featuring two buildings with 75 apartments. Harborlight Community Partners is submitting an application for state funding this month. If approved, construction could begin next year.
