Beverly Middle School Sent Into Lockdown Upon System Initiation

Beverly police cleared all classrooms during the lockdown duration.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly Middle School classrooms were cleared on Tuesday afternoon after a system activation triggered an automatic lockdown of the building.

Beverly Superintendent Peter Cushing said the lockdown appeared "to be an accidental initiation of the safety system."

"Despite this being an accident, all rooms will be cleared following the protocol," Cushing said in a message to the school community. "Rooms are cleared with Beverly police and school officials.
