Beverly OKs $3.8 Million In Top Secret School Security Spending
Beverly Mayor Mike Cahill said discussing the spending in a public effort would undermine the security efforts.

BEVERLY, MA -- Beverly officials will say this much: they're going to spend $3.75 million to "enhance security and communication systems within our schools" following City Council approval Monday. Beyond that, officials won't disclose what the money is being spent on or who it is going to.
"Unfortunately, this is one of those items that is just so sensitive based on the security concerns and needs of protecting our kids and our teachers that the details, the specifics, can't be talked about in a public forum" Beverly Mayor Mike Cahill told the Salem News, which first reported this story. An exemption in the state public records law passed after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks allows cities and towns to withhold security information about public buildings.
