Beverly Man Charged With Assault and Battery On a Child

The following is an excerpt from the Beverly Police Department's log:
Tuesday, March 18:
- At 4:36 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Cabot Street.
- At 4:40 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Charles Street.
- At 4:57 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Dolloff Avenue.
- At 5:00 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Enon Street.
- At 5:42 p.m., police responded to a medical emergency on Park Street.
- At 5:46 p.m., police received word that a gold-colored motor vehicle struck a dog near the intersection of Cabot and Pickett streets and kept going.
- At 5:51 p.m., police made an arrest near the intersection of Cabot and Bow streets. Jose A. Torres Jr., 20, of 332 Rantoul St., Beverly, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
- At 8:26 p.m., police responded to a report of a past sexual assault on Essex Street.
- At 8:51 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Hale Street.
- At 8:54 p.m., a resident called police to report that his bicycle had been stolen.
- At 10:17 p.m., police responded to a report of an out-of-control man with no shirt or shoes banging on a door on Rantoul Street. Officers determined the man was on acid.
Wednesday, March 19:
- At 12:38 a.m., police responded to an alarm on Brimbal Avenue.
- At 12:56 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Cabot Street. Officers determined that it was just someone having car trouble.
- At 2:23 a.m., police and fire units responded to a fire alarm on Fayette Street.
- At 10:03 a.m., police responded to a possible drug transaction on Elliott Street.
- At 12:24 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Essex Street. A motorist told police they were run off of the road by an oncoming vehicle and struck a pole.
- At 1:12 p.m., police responded to a report of aggravated assault on Cabot Street.
- At 1:46 p.m., police responded to a report of threats on Colgate Road.
- At 1:47 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Cabot Street.
- At 2:50 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of River and Bridge streets.
- At 3:13 p.m., police responded to an alarm on Rantoul Street.
Christopher F. Vanhorn, 29, of 205 Cabot St., Beverly, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery on a child with injury.
