Beverly Police Officer Arraigned on OUI Charge

Officer was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

Beverly Police Officer Kevin Weafer, 52, of Beverly, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday in Newburyport District Court to OUI second offense, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Judge Peter Doyle set bail at $1000 and ordered the defendant not to consume drugs and alcohol and to submit to random screens.

West Newbury Police arrested Weafer on Sunday, Sept. 6th at Pipestave Hill Park after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated man looking for his dog at the park. Police allege that the defendant was carrying his Beverly Police Department-issued firearm and that there was a half-empty bottle of vodka in his motor vehicle.
