Beverly Police 'Urge' Residents To Take Civil Service Exam
"We need new candidates for positions more than ever," - Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur.

BEVERLY, MA — Citing an unprecedented need for police officer candidates, Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur is urging residents interested in a possible career in law enforcement to sign up for the upcoming Civil Service Test given early in 2024.
Sign-ups are open through Jan. 16.
"Law enforcement is a challenging but extremely rewarding career, and we need new candidates for positions more than ever, so I strongly encourage anyone in the community who is interested in law enforcement as a possible career to take their first step and sign up for the Civil Service Test," LeLacheur said in a message to the community.

Since Beverly hires within the civil service system, taking the test is necessary to get on the list to be an entry-level candidate for vacancies in Beverly and most area departments, as well as the MBTA Transit Police.
The tests gauge cognitive abilities and skills, character attributes and experiences that will contribute to becoming a successful police officer candidate. Test scores are good for two years with candidates eligible to take them every year with the most recent test score used for eligible-list ranking purposes.
