Beverly Replacing Parking Meters With Kiosks
The new downtown parking system will let you pay by credit card, smartphone app or good old fashioned loose change.
BEVERLY, MA -- There's no such thing as a free lunch in life, but there will be free parking in downtown Beverly this summer. The city unveiled a new parking plan on its Website this week that includes replacing parking meters with kiosks and no charge for the first 20 minutes your vehicle is parked.
The new system goes into effect this summer and includes the removal of parking meters. Those will be replaced with central pay kiosks, where drivers can use a smartphone app, a debit or credit card, or coins to pay for parking. After the free 20 minutes, parking will range from 25 cents per hour in municipal parking lots to 75 cents per hour for on-street parking on Rantoul and Cabot Streets.
Parking will be enforced between 8 am and 8 pm. Drivers will need to know their license plate number to enter it into the kiosk or app. Permits are available for downtown residents and businesses.
