Beverly Resident Reports Being Scammed Over the Phone

Excerpts from the Beverly Police Department log.

Friday, Dec. 19

At 8:50 p.m., police responded to Cabot Street and Colon Street about a man on the train tracks. Police found him trying to start his moped near Spring Street. An officer spoke to him and advised him to not walk on the train tracks and not ride his moped until he is properly licensed.

At 1:20 a.m., police responded to Route 128 at Exit 18 about a vehicle in the woods. The driver was taken to the hospital.

At 1:45 a.m., police checked on a vehicle parked in a lot but not in an assigned space on Cabot Street. The car’s alarm was sounding and two people were asleep in the vehicle. Police found the vehicle reeked of alcohol and both people were intoxicated. Neither person could find the keys to the vehicle, which was registered out of Maryland. Police transported them to a Beverly residence and the vehicle was towed.

At 9:40 a.m., a Rantoul Street resident reported mail fraud. Police took a report.

At 9:16 p.m., police responded to Pleasant Street about an intoxicated man. Police found the man drinking alcohol in a hallway. A resident said the man was harassing him. Police told the intoxicated man to return to his room for the evening and stay away from the other man.

Sunday, Dec. 21

At 3:24 p.m., police responded to a suspicious motor vehicle call on Bridge Street. Police spoke to the driver who stopped to listen to the Patriots game.

At 9:13 p.m., an Elliott Street resident reported being scammed over the phone for $907.42. Police took a report.
