Blown Transformer Briefly Knocks Out Downtown Power
Crews are repairing the transformer at the National Grid building on River Street.

A number of people in Beverly heard a loud bang shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon thanks to a blown transformer at a National Grid substation at 44 River Street.
Downtown Beverly briefly lost power, and the fire department was called to the scene.
However, fire crews were quickly recalled when it was determined that there was no fire associated with the blown transformer.

Utility crews were on the scene making further repairs at the substation after the fire crews were called back to the station, according to the Beverly Fire Department.
