Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Lecture/Discussion at Endicott

BEVERLY – Get a behind the scenes look at the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in a lecture and discussion with two of the program’s finest, Sylvia Waters, Ailey II Artistic Director Emerita, and Ana-Marie Forsythe, Chair of the Horton Department, The Ailey School. 

The lecture and discussion will be held in the Rose Performance Hall, Manninen Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale Street, Beverly on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 1:00 – 2:30 PM.  The event is free and open to the public. 

Through the use of selected texts, including Jennifer Dunning's biography Alvin Ailey: A Life in Dance, and archival footage of performance and interviews, students and guests will explore Mr. Ailey's singular vision by cultivating an appreciation of the impact of his work in the artistic, societal, and cultural realms. Special attention will be paid to his musical collaborations with Duke Ellington, Max Roach, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Charlie Mingus, among others. This lecture and discussion is appropriate for all ages.
