Carol Pelletier’s Solo Exhibit at Endicott: Local Ground

Beverly, MA -- Endicott College is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Local Ground by Carol Pelletier, a New England artist, and Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Endicott College at the Manninen Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale Street, Beverly. The exhibit will be in the Spencer Presentation Gallery from Monday, March 25 – Friday, May 24, 2013.  Gallery hours are: Monday – Thursday:  9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Friday:  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday:  2 – 4 p.m. A reception will be held on Thursday, April 25 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Carol Grillo Gallery.  The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. 

This body of work reveals Ms. Pelletier’s research into the transitory shift of color and light between water and sky found on the New England coast.  She says “Today I search for the sublime through a collection of memories, but I also find that returning to New England after being away for almost 15 years has grounded my imagery in an unexpected but powerful way. In the end these images are based on memory, the memory of place and my emotional connection to the time in which I visited that place.  My images encompass the idea of layered imagery, as in the layers, which are found in memory. I react to the shifts that occur in an image as the painting develops and this keeps the image in constant flux.  This process is a practiced meditation revealing subtleties of movement and emotion.” 

Carol Pelletier shares her time between the North Shore of Boston and Deer Isle, Maine where she has found an emotional connection to a location that encompasses both past and present. Ms. Pelletier is the Chair of Fine Arts and Associate Professor of Art at Endicott College. She received the Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from James Madison University and the Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She has exhibited in over 50 solo and group shows nationwide, including the Attleboro Art Museum, the Huntington Museum of Art, the Oglebay Institute, Soren Christensen, Isalos Fine Art, Olson-Larsen Gallery, Berea College and Marietta College to name a few. She has received three National Endowment for the Arts Grants, including a Fellowship grant to honor her achievement in the field of Fine Arts. She has also received a Mellon Foundation grant and is a Salzburg Fellow. Her work has been in multiple catalogue exhibitions and publications including the New American Paintings, Visual Overture and RiverLit Magazines. She is represented by the River Gallery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

 Housed in the Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts, the Department of Fine Arts offers BFA programs in Studio Art, Art Therapy, Art Education, Intermedia, and 3-D. With exceptional faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, the Fine Arts Department at Endicott College is also highly regarded for the internship program. Students have completed internships at notable institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Sotheby’s, the Peabody Essex and the Photographic Resource Center.
