Design, Brand and Experience: From Culture to Form - A Perkins + Will Installation

Beverly, MA -- What happens when design, brand and experience merge to create environments that stretch our expectations of each of these creative platforms?  Join us at the Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts at Endicott College as Eileen Jones, a Design Principal with Perkins + Will, explores the convergent paths of design that tell stories and elicit emotional responses to physical environments, in an installation entitled Design, Brand and Experience: From Culture to Form.  

This exhibition will be in the Heftler Visiting Artist Gallery, Manninen Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale Street, Beverly now through June 14, 2013.   Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  The reception will be on Thursday, April 18, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the lecture presentation with Eileen Jones will take place from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Rose Performance Hall.  All are free and open to the public.  

Where design is foundational, brand attributes and benefits are made tangible, and technology enhances and heightens the response to spatial awareness and interactions.  The resultant Branded Environment thinking engages process, research, patterning, strategy, and the use of 2-D and 3-D interaction design. 

As stated by Eileen Jones, the designer of this installation and the Branded Environments Global Leader at Perkins + Will, “For almost 30 years, we’ve been creating experiences and expressions of the Antron® brand in print, web and 3-dimentional environments.  This exploration has resulted in environments that capture the spirit of an abstract product – a fiber, used to make yarn, which in turn is used to make carpet.  The best way to explore this product is to tell its story of inspiration, characteristics, benefits and attributes, and to craft an experience that celebrates each of these.” 

Jones continues, “This exhibit, at Endicott College, captures the spirit of the Antron® brand.  Fiber shapes the space and the experience you have with the brand.  Ever-changing colored light speaks to the way in which the fiber accepts color and can be transformed by a designer’s creativity.  A performance venue captured within the fiber speaks to the fibers inherent performance characteristics and capabilities.  The continuous band of images enclosing the exhibit identifies the transformative nature this product has on any environment.
